the stupidest commercial ever

  • Mar. 9th, 2009 at 12:49 AM

The new Geico campaign with the eyes on the money. Shockingly bad... cant believe people in a room approved that concept.

Warm weather (finally)

  • Mar. 7th, 2009 at 11:57 PM

Here in Virginia it has been a bitterly cold winter. We had a "march lion" snowstorm on March 1st but this weekend has been beautiful, in the 70s and clear skies. So nice to see spring come to the shenandoah valley.

Ups and downs in my life otherwise, but the weather does put a smile on my face...

I bought a Snuggie on Friday the 13th

  • Feb. 14th, 2009 at 11:00 PM

i am sure most of u have seen that crazy commercial for the Snuggie, the blanket with sleeves. The red one makes you look like you are in a cult. Anyway, we have had a bitter cold winter around here so I was tempted to get one around christmas time but I heard that the website and ordering by phone from that company was a ripoff and a hassle.

The other day I was in Bed, Bath and Beyond and lol and behold right beside the "Vince" product the shamwow was a bunch of blue snuggies in boxes. So I broke down and bought one, it came with a free booklight (woohoo). It is a nice warm snuggly thing but very longggggg.

Guess the next trend for me will be the Vermont teddy bear sooner or later...

Halloween random thoughts

  • Nov. 1st, 2008 at 7:48 PM

This years halloween was fun. I actually got to enjoy it at home with my husband giving out candy. Usually we both have to work that night. Randy put a couple of teddy bears in his shirt and growled at the kids like a zombie. Some were a little scared, but then one cute little girl smiled and said "bears!" which made our night.

Times have changed so much. There was a time when kids could go out and not worry about much danger, parents just had to use common sense, but now there is so much peril for kids out there.

People also decorate more for halloween than they used to. When i was a kid you saw a few pumpkins in front of houses, wreaths and maybe a witch or 2 and that was it. Now, people trick out their houses like it is christmas, lights and decorations abound. Halloween has become commercialized like every other holiday.

I love autumn. This time is so pretty here in the shenandoah valley the autumn trees are so full of color and the weather is nearly perfect. I feel fortunate to live here when i see the beauty outside my window.

Finally cute commercials

  • Aug. 31st, 2008 at 9:39 PM

i really the new commercials for the swiffer products where the mop and broom are trying to get back in the house to the strains of "baby come back" pretty cute and clever after so many stupid commercials on tv lately.

I especially hate the Burger King King, he looks evil and scary.............

A bittersweet Olympic night

  • Aug. 13th, 2008 at 12:48 AM

Felt bad for the American women tonight, even though they won the silver it was a disappointing night for them, once they made a couple of mistakes and lost their confidence that was it.
On the positive side the mens swimming team have done so well, we as a nation should be proud of Phelps and the rest.

Togo won its first medal ever, kudos to that country :-).

The Olympics are like life, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, good and bad.................

An Unforgettable film.......

  • Aug. 11th, 2008 at 1:26 AM

The other night I saw a film that I will describe as unforgettable. It is called "They Shoot Horses, Dont they?' The film was made in 1969 and it is set during the Depression. One line stuck with me, one character Gloria says something like this "I think life is like central casting, the whole thing is rigged even before you show up." There are times when I agree with this statement.

I find that many films have a you have seen one you have seen them all or in one ear and out the other feeling to them. Not  this one, this one will stick with me for a long time.

Anyone else on my friends list who has seen this picture, I would appreciate your thoughts. .

Olympic (non) fashion

  • Aug. 8th, 2008 at 11:28 PM

Tonight's opening ceremonies were great. But some of the clothes the athletes wore during the stadium walk were terrrible!! Especially the dresses the Hungarian women wore, ugh!!! The Americans, the Chinese, the Italians and the Germans looked very good but some of the other countries, omg what was the wardrobe dept thinking!!!!

Anyway, I always look forward to the Olympic games. If I had the money I would love to go to them when they are in this country.

Billy Mays

This guy is a trip. First he advertises Orange glo and oxiclean years ago, then other cleaning products. Now he is advertising health insurance, and a vegetable chopper. The guy will never go away and never stop advertising. What is next, "adult" novelties???

"The Burning"

  • Jan. 27th, 2008 at 11:44 PM

Before Jason Alexander went on to fame in "Seinfeld" he acted in this cheesy, Friday the 13th esque movie called
"The Burning". He was 21 years old at the time, was thin and still had hair. This film plays on IFC from time to time, the
horror is pretty graphic and bloody but the film is worth checking out. Also, Holly Hunter and Fisher Stevens are in this flick.

The Great Chuck Berry

  • Jan. 18th, 2008 at 11:05 AM

This is my favorite Chuck Berry song, a song that is sure to put a smile on the faces of the people who bother to read this journal.
Enjoy

Maybellene

Maybellene, why can't you be true?
Oh Maybellene why can't you be true?
You've started back doing the things you used to do.

As I was motivatin over the hill
I saw maybellene in a coup de ville
A cadillac a rollin on the open road.
Nothin will outrun my v8 ford
The cadillac doin bout ninety-five
She's bumper to bumper rollin side by side.

Maybellene why can't you be true?
Oh Maybellene why can't you be true?
You've started back doing the things you used to do.

Pink in the mirror on top of the hill,
It's just like swallowin up a medicine pill.
First thing I saw that cadillac grille
Doin a hundred and ten gallopin over the hill.
Offhill curve, a downhill stretch.
Me and that cadillac neck by neck.

(Chorus)

The cadillac pulled up ahead of the ford.
The ford got hot and wouldn't do no more.
It then got cloudy and started to rain,
I tooted my horn for a passin lead
The rain water blowin all under my hood,
I knew that it was doin my motor good.

(Chorus)

The motor cooled down, the heat went down
And thats when I heard that highway sound.
The cadillac a-sittin like a ton of lead
A hundred and ten half a mile ahead.
The cadillac lookin like its sittin still
And I caugh Maybellene at the top of the hill.

(Chorus0

Politically Correct nonsense at Christmastime

  • Dec. 20th, 2007 at 11:25 AM

Hi, all
I might get some flack for posting this but I really don't care.  A couple of weeks ago I had lunch at Red Lobster which I enjoy doing about once a week. Anyway, I remarked to the waitress and the restaurant manager how nice the Christmas decorations looked. Both of them told me that they can decorate any way they want to, but they are not allowed to put up a tree because it might "offend" people of different religions.
How ridiculous!!
The day may come when people who want to outlaw any outward display of this holiday will be in power. If that happens we will only be allowed to decorate in our own homes and churches.
I mean, seriously, if you can put holly, evergreen and poinsettia plants in a restaurant it is pretty clear that hey this is Christmastime so what is the big deal about a tree?
